About The Special Task Force
Mandate and Legal Empowerment
The Special Task Force West Bengal (STF, WB) was formally constituted via Government Notification No. 2809-PL/PB/14M-162/19 dated September 9, 2019, by the Home & Hill Affairs Department, Nabanna. The wing was organized to function as the elite interdiction agency for severe statewide offenses and serves as the primary technical and intelligence liaison interface to the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
Statutory Jurisdiction (CrPC & BNS Powers)
Pursuant to official Police Order No. 06/2019 Dated December 23, 2019, issued by the West Bengal Police Directorate, and in exercise of the powers conferred under Section 36 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973 (as updated by respective Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita coordinates), officers of the Special Task Force hold explicit authority to assume command over the investigation of specified critical cases registered in any police station across West Bengal. While conducting these complex operations, investigating officers from the STF exercise the full statutory powers of an Officer-in-Charge of a Police Station under Section 156 of the CrPC / relevant BNS codes.
